Hello fabulous travellers! Things have been pretty quiet around here recently. Did you miss me? Wonder where I’ve been? There’s a couple of reasons I’ve been so quiet of late…
The first one is quite easy to spot. If you haven’t visited Minka Guides for a while then you may notice I have a new website! Yes, a bright new shiny site on WordPress. After nearly 3 years of using awful Wix, I’d had enough and so I’ve been working hard over the past couple of months to move everything across to this much more blogger-friendly platform. Yay!
Secondly, I’ve been busy getting settled into my new job as a travel content queen at Hostelworld! Since starting there in July, I’ve already been to Australia and Prague with the company, so it’s already turning out to be my dream job. YAY!
So what’s happening with me these winter holidays? Read on.
This is probably my favourite month of the year to be in London. I love the lead-up to Christmas here SO MUCH it’s pretty much why I endure the cold.
Sink The Pink Presents: Fairytales & Nightmares
So it’s the last ever Winter Ball for Sink The Pink at the Troxy (and thus probably my last ball with Sink The Pink – boo!) but they’ve got a crackin’ theme for this one! After years of quarterly balls, they’re really sending this last one off with a bang. Tickets sold out within 24 hours but you can still grab some resales if you’re lucky on the event page.
So my October trip to Dublin never happened, but I think a pre-Christmas adventure there will be even better! Dublin seems like an amazing city to get festive in and I’m really looking forward to making my pilgrimage to the Pantibar! Any fabulous recommendations for Dublin? Leave me a comment below 👇
I’m spending Christmas at home in London this year. This means our traditional walk along the canal with a bottle of champers on Christmas Day, a big festive lunch at one of our fave pubs and then home again to snuggle up for some legendary British Christmas TV. Sounds rather lovely, right?
If you’re looking for a fabulous place to celebrate NYE in London, come join me and the Sink The Pink family for our big end of year celebration! Tickets go on sale soon so keep an eye on the Facebook page.
So January is always about two things: letting my liver recover from the festive season and ensuring it is well and truly mended in time for MY BIRTHDAY at the end of the month (yep, I’m born in the astrological week of genius #justsaying). So there are no adventures for me in January, which is a shame but thankfully I have an amazing plan for frosty February.
This month is the mid-point in London for the 3 gruelling months between Christmas and Spring. It’s a pretty bleak time to hang around the city so I’m glad to be escaping to somewhere a little warmer.
Keeping with my tradition of visiting a balmier part of Europe in the winter, I’m heading back to Madrid for the first time in forever this Feb. I know this is the super low season for Spain, but the fact that it might even have a little sun and break the 10 degrees mark will feel amazing when I’m coming from London’s grey. It also looks like Generator will be opening a new hostel here this month, so fingers crossed I can bring you a review for this shiny new poshtel in the new year! February is also the month when legendary London LGBTQ+ venue, The Glory, starts its annual drag queen competition, Lipsync1000! This competition drags on for WEEKS, which means it is probably the most phenomenally diverse lipsync competition in all of Europe. No announcements have been made yet but keep your eyes on their Facebook page early in the new year. Oh, and why you’re here you can watch my entry from last year ☝️
